Red Phoenix starts almost immediately after the events of White Tiger.
From the cover: “When Emma Donahoe took the position of nanny to John Chen’s daughter Simone, she never expected to be caring for the child of a Chinese god, and she didn’t expect that demons would want him dead. Nor has moving from nanny to partner in his heavenly realm made Emma’s life any easier.
Now a powerful race of demons has been created to hunt her and her family from Hong Kong to
Europe
. And she and Simone have become targets - pawns to be used in a deadly celestial power play.”
I read this book, all 592 pages, in less than two days. As with the first in the series, there is non-stop action and intrigue. We learn more about the characters and we meet some new ones, some nice, some evil. Emma’s hidden depths are becoming more apparent to all, including herself.
This is fantasy at its best. The characters are well-developed and grow with each book. The action will keep you turning just one more page because you can’t wait to see what comes next. There is danger and drama as well as some laugh-out-loud family meetings. I cannot wait for the next one, Blue Dragon, which comes out later this month. Very highly recommended. ~~ Stephanie L Bannon
