A Crown Imperiled
by Raymond E. Feist
Harper, $27.99, 469pp
Release Date: March 13, 2012

This is the second volume of the Chaoswar Saga by the author of the Riftwar Cycle.

War rages in Midkemia again and signs of dark forces at work hint to the kingdom’s demise. Jim Dasher’s intelligence network has been dismantled and as enemies march across the kingdom wreaking destruction, its defenders struggle to survive. The King of the Isles has no heir, Roldem and Rillanon's thrones are in danger of being toppled, and Princess Stephane' and her lady-in-waiting are being smuggled out of Roldem for safety but nowhere is safe. If Yilith falls, all is lost. As the defenders fight for their lives, Pug and the Conclave of Shadows seek on a magical mission to stop the dark forces orchestrating the destruction. Time is running out.

As usual, with a Feist fantasy, there is plenty of action, intrigue and character development and continuity with previous work. He has almost invented the modern epic fantasy. More important, he never leaves you bored. If you love fantasy, you are probably already a fan. If you haven't read him there are another 30 on the Harper publishing list. ~~ Pam Allan
