While the science fiction community has been doing its best to snub the idea of “mundane scifi” limited to real possibilities in our solar system, the old master Ben Bova has been quietly building a series over 20 years which is the epitome of mundane science fiction. He hasn’t dared to call it that; instead he has labeled it “the grand tour” as per the journey a space probe would take of the planets in our system. Novels are based on every planet out to Saturn, or the asteroid belt, or in this case our Moon. Herein we have the dangers and intrigues of building a telescope on the Moon, with opposition by a rival agency and the prize of sighting an Earth-like planet at another star.
