Property of a Lady Faire: A Secret Histories Novel
by Simon R Green
Roc, $26,95, 352pp
Publication Date: June 3, 014
This is the eighth book in The Secret Histories series consisting of 1. The Man with the Golden Torc, 2. Daemons Are Forever, 3. The Spy Who Haunted Me, 4 From Hell with Love , 5 For Heaven's Eyes Only; 6 Live and Let Drood (review here) and 7 Casino Infernale.
Edwin Drood, first introduced in Green’s Nightside series, is a member of the Drood family which protects the world from assorted magical and supernatural threats. As seen above, the titles all parody James Bond titles and Edwin’s field name is Shaman Bond.
This installment sees Eddie, along with girlfriend Molly, in search of a mysterious ancient object in order to save his family who suffered ill fortune in the previous book. His parents are missing, his grandparents murdered and the entire Drood family is in danger. Lady Faire has the object and is not amenable to handing it over; so, Eddie will have to steal it from her, not an easy task.
While these books can stand alone it is best to read the series in order, I fully intend to find Casino Infernale to have a better grasp of the overall story arc since these events seem to follow closely on the events of that book. As usual Green delivers a fast-paced adventure with touches of humor and absolutely delightful dialogue. ~~ Stephanie L Bannon
