Eric Albright is a would-be journalist living in London. His friend, Stuart Casey, is a homeless drunk living under a bridge near Eric’s flat. Then one day a small red door appears in the wall of the bridge and a group of strange people rush out and rob a news agency before disappearing back through the door. From that point forward Eric and Case haunt the arch under the bridge, waiting for the door to reappear.
When the door reappears they both go through and find a magical land called Levaal, complete with a sleeping dragon and a castle complete with a mad lord who wants to become a god but fears an imaginary being named Shadow.
As if a mad ruler was not enough, a great wall divides Lavaal, no one knows what might be on the other side and soon that wall may be broken.
Eric and Case team up with Anfen, a former castle army captain; Siel, a beautiful female mage; Loup, a folk magician; and Sharfy, another member of Anfen's band.
Elliott has created a wonderful world, a glorious cast of characters that range from the mad Lord Vous, to murderous mages, stone giants and dragons, as well as a system of magic all his own. The story draws the reader in and keeps you turning the pages in a fantasy where the world and the characters are equally intriguing. Highly recommended ~~ Stephanie L Bannon
