The Martian
By Andy Weir
Crown, $15.00, 400pp
Published: October 2014

Back cover: A mission to Mars, a freak accident, one man’s struggle to survive.

When a dust storm forces his crew to evacuate the planet while thinking him dead, astronaut. Mark Watney finds himself stranded on Mar’s surface, completely alone.

Armed with nothing but his ingenuity, his engineering skills—and a gallows sense of humor that proves to be his greatest source of strength –Mark embarks on a dogged quest to stay alive. But will his resourcefulness be enough to overcome the impossible odds against him?

This is a great book to read. It show us the never-ending battle against the planet Mars viewed through one man’s outlook for the positive in everything that goes wrong as well as what goes right.  His fight to live as well as to leave Mars alive is epic. I read the book and also saw the movie. Both are worth the time. The book is more detailed and covers the science very well. The movie is so close to the book that only a few chapters were skipped. ~~ CLD
