The plot which has been building for the last few books reaches its climax here with the Sangre Duello finally being held to determine the fate of the vampires, witches and other supernatural being of the US and Europe. There is magic, treachery, betrayal and incredible acts of loyalty as some live and some die in an attempt to save them all. There is also a secondary plot about Jane’s past, as a man claiming to be her brother shows up on her doorstep.
Apparently this was originally supposed to be the end of the Jane Yellowock series but it has been announced there will be one, if not two, more books. This is a good thing since the ending was, in some ways, disappointing had this truly been the end of the series overall. While the writing up until the duel itself was satisfying, other than the aforementioned appearance of Jane’s brother, the last 20 pages seemed incredibly rushed as if to set up for the next book that Ms. Hunter had not planned on when beginning to write this one. There is still much to tell of Jane’s story, both her past and future, and I hope we see several more books about Jane Yellowrock and her companions. Overall this is a highly recommended series but you must read it from the beginning to see how Jane, and those around her, change and grow over the course of the books. ~~ Stephanie L Bannon
