Tricked
Iron Druid Chronicles #4
by Kevin Hearne
Del Rey, $7.99, 368pp
Published: April 2012

Druid Atticus O’Sullivan hasn’t stayed alive for more than two millennia without a fair bit of Celtic cunning. So when vengeful thunder gods come Norse by Southwest looking for payback, Atticus, with a little help from the Navajo trickster god Coyote, lets them think that they’ve chopped up his body in the Arizona desert.

But the mischievous Coyote is not above a little sleight of paw, and Atticus soon finds that he’s been duped into battling bloodthirsty desert shapeshifters called skinwalkers. Just when the Druid thinks he’s got a handle on all the duplicity, betrayal comes from an unlikely source. If Atticus survives this time, he vows he won’t be fooled again. Famous last words.

Having killed Thor, Atticus is now the target of vengeful thunder gods of other pantheons. With help from Coyote he  fools them into thinking he is dead but then, of course, he owes Coyote a favor which involves dealing with skinwalkers in order to build a solar plant. There is the additional problem that the possessed body of the Widow MacDonagh comes walking up the road in a quest to find Atticus and recruit him in her plans for Ragnarok.

The series gets better with each book.  The interplay between Atticus and Oberon is delightful. I can’t wait to see what trouble Atticus falls into in the next book. ~~ Stephanie L Bannon
