Ghost hunter, fox whisperer, troublemaker.

It is the summer of 2013 and Abigail Kamara has been left to her own devices. This might, by those who know her, be considered a mistake. While her cousin, police constable and apprentice wizard Peter Grant, is off in the sticks chasing unicorns, Abigail is chasing her own mystery. Teenagers around Hampstead Heath have been going missing but before the police can get fully engaged, the teens return home—unharmed but vague about where they’ve been.

Aided only by her new friend Simon, her knowledge that magic is real and a posse of talking foxes that think they’re spies, Abigail must venture into the wilds of Hampstead to discover who is luring the teenagers and more importantly—why?

Teens are going missing but only for a few days before they show up again with no real explanation of where they have been. Abigail is almost enticed into being one of the missing and thus she and her new friend Simon start to investigate. Aided by a group of talking foxes they track down to where the kids are disappearing, but the question becomes “can Abigail save everyone or become trapped as they are?”

While this is the ninth installment of the Rivers of London series it is the first I have read in this series. That said there are things, people and relationships that I am sure were dealt with in prior books but are understandable enough in context that I enjoyed the story and had no problems understanding the setting. I am now eager to read the others in the series and also hope we will see more of Abigail’s adventures. ~~ Stephanie L Bannon
