Poppy Stringer was born to be a star.

An aspiring fashion influencer by day, Poppy moonlights as a grave robber to make ends meet, wheeling and dealing dead bodies across Palm Springs.

When her hero, the flamboyant, piano-slamming rockstar Eddie Michaels, unexpectedly dies, Poppy gets a call to retrieve his body from the medical examiner's office for a lucrative sum. It could be the last job she'll ever need-if everything goes to plan. But the night's delivery quickly veers off course when Eddie wakes up.

Now Poppy must fight for her life if she hopes to survive this blood-soaked joyride of carnage and extravagant entertainment.

Fabulous Bodies by Chuck Tingle is wild and complex, bloody and horrific but in all the best ways. While Poppy seems dark and morally ambiguous, her drive for survival and to give her daughter the life she didn't have makes the narrative complex and emotional. Even as Poppy deals with Eddie and discovers truths about him and even herself that she doesn't expect, her love of her daughter keeps her moving forward, to find a way to survive the bloody savagery that Eddie brings.

I love horror but I also like horror where the characters learn and grow. Poppy takes us on a journey, learning lessons about herself but also showing us vulnerability and a tenacity that will not quit. I love how much she loves her daughter who is a delightful character herself and I love Poppy's drive for survival.

If you like carnage and horror, Fabulous Bodies by Chuck Tingle is wild and complex. The ending is unexpected and the pacing is taut. The story is graphic and dark with morally ambiguous characters but it also has Poppy, loving her daughter and trying to find a way back to her family and survive all the horrors around her.
