Angelina Everhart and her brother Evan run a PI firm in Chattanooga that specializes in paranormal cases. Set in the same world as Ms Hunter’s Jane Yellowrock and Soulwood series we have skipped forward in time about twenty years. In that period from the end of the Yellowrock series to now there was a magical war that changed both Angie and Evan Everhart in ways neither wants to discuss. What they agree on is that they want to be independent, not part of Jane’s royal court and not part of the family coven.

The overall plot, like all Ms Hunter’s plots involving vampires, is devious - vampires play a really long game in locking in on their goals. There is a plot against the Queen, vampires plotting against other vampires, and several plots involving personal revenge, Angie’s ex-husband against her, as well as the Everheart’s vampire bodyguard Walter’s desire for revenge against his maker.

We get brief glimpses of familiar characters from the Jane Yellowrock series but the primary focus here is grown-up, adult Angie and Evan along with the Everheart’s cousin Shiloh, a vampire/witch/were something.  This is a good set-up for a new series. There is no need to have read either the Jane Yellowrock or Soulwood series to enjoy these though both series are highly recommended. I look forward to reading more about Angie, Evan, Walter and Shiloh. Highly recommended ~~ Stephanie L Bannon
