Hello, World! Ocean Life
by Jill McDonald
Aimed at 1-3 years
Doubleday Books for Young Readers, $8.99, 26pp
Published: February 2019

Hello, World! is a series designed to introduce first nonfiction concepts to babies and toddlers. Told in clear and easy terms ("An octopus has eight arms. Can you count them all?") and featuring bright, cheerful illustrations, Hello, World! is a perfect way to bring science, nature, and culture into the busy world of a toddler, where learning never stops.

I read this book with my grandson, who's a year and a half. He loved the colorfully whimsical pictures, especially the jellyfish, octopi and whales but also the other sea creatures contained in this book. He liked to look through the pages over and over again and there are twenty-six of them, more than is usual for a board book.

I appreciate a good sturdy board book for my younger grandkids, especially Sam. He loves books more than most of my grandchildren but, like with any toddler, a lot of wear and tear can go into that loving and a good board book withstands the test of time.

This was the first book in the Hello, World series that I've read to him, and I'll happily look for more from this series to share with him in the future. ~~ Dee Astell
