This is part of a long established series but it easily read and enjoyed without having read the others.

Ella Clah is a tribal police officer on the Navajo Reservation balancing her life between home and police work. When a body is discovered buried near the reservation border it leads to the discovery of three more, all murdered one year apart. Joining forces with the FBA and county officers, Ella and her team investigate the murders while keeping a balance between the traditions of Navajo live and the realities necessary to investigate a crime. Along with the case, though, Ella has to deal with her twelve-year-old daughter’s pre-teen angst and rebellion, her own mother who seems upset about something, and a good friend who wants their friendship to be much more.

I enjoyed this book, the characters are well-fleshed out, the insight into Navajo culture is fascinating and the mystery was believable. I will be looking for more in this series. Highly recommended ~~ Stephanie L Bannon
