Looking Through Darkness
Trading Post Novel #2
by Aimee & David Thurlo
Tor/Forge, $25.99, 304pp
Published July 2015

The second of the Trading Post novels finds Jo running The Outpost trading post just off the Navajo reservation in New Mexico. One of her employees is widow Leigh Ann Vance who is not having a real good time in life right now. Her late husband turned out to be, not only a cheater, but an embezzler as well. Both Kurt’s partners and the police suspect she knows more than she is letting on and the police wonder if Leigh Ann murdered her cheating husband.

Blind sculptor Melvin Littlewater has feelings for Leigh Ann, and a mystery of his own: who was the young girl he saw right before the crash that took his sight.

Jo has problems of her own, her teacher was poisoned right before her eyes and she barely kept him alive. Things happen to both Jo and Leigh, together and alone, so we are not sure who the target is.

We come to know Jo better as well as the varied other characters involved with The Outpost who all come together to help Jo and Leigh get to the bottom to of the mysteries. This was the late Aimee Thuro’s last book before her death from cancer in 2014. It is unclear if there will be more in this series. All of the Thurlo’s books are recommended. ~~ Stephanie L Bannon
