Ruddy McCann is a former high school football star and ex-con who works as a repo man living in Kalkaska, Michigan with his basset hound, Jake. His sister Becky runs the family bar where Ruddy also works as a bouncer. Things are not great but are going okay until Ruddy has a horrible dream one night and wakes up with the voice of murder victim Alan Lottner sharing his mind. While those around him think Ruddy is losing his mind to repo madness, slowly Ruddy learns Alan was a real person, the dream was an accurate vision of his murder nine years earlier and now Ruddy is going to have to solve it or have Alan in his mind forever.
This was a great read. The characters are quirky and endearing, we learn enough about their back stories that we come to understand and care for them quickly. Ruddy with his painful past, Jimmy the sweet innocent, Katie, the murdered man’s daughter and soon Ruddy’s girlfriend and even Kermit and his get-rich quick scheme and his willingness to make the ultimate sacrifice for Becky, the woman he has fallen in love with. The characters are the main attraction here with just enough mystery to keep things moving along nicely. I look forward to the next in the series, Repo Madness (click here for review) ~~ Stephanie L Bannon
