Scooby Doom Versus The Cult Of Cthulhu
Author: Khurt Khave
First United Church of Cthulhu, $10.99 , 134pp
Published: November 7, 2016

Scooby Doom Versus The Cult Of Cthulhu is a 'Choose Your Own Adventure' or, in this case, a 'Roose Your Rown Radventure' book. Rutrow! The Rult of Rurooroo! You are Scooby Doom, a hound of Carcosa, and you must stop the tentacled terror of the Cult of Cthulhu. Choose from 47 possible endings, most resulting in death! Will it be yours?

It includes Easter eggs from Saturday morning cartoons, 80's music, Dungeons and Dragons, the Cthulhu Mythos, ABC Weekend Specials, and other cultural icons and references of the era, including Doctor Herbert West. What's not to love?

For those few who have no clue what a 'Choose Your Own Adventure' book is, it's a book that you read by making choices; as you progress through the story, your choices can either be your saving grace or sudden death, so choose carefully! These books were very popular in the 80's and 90's and it's a treat to see that the author has modeled his book to match the style and look of those originals, right down to the size of the pages.

It was a lot of fun opening this book and starting a new adventure for the first time in at least thirty years. It took me back to my youth and the enjoyment I experienced whenever I chose wisely and survived to the end. Mr. Khave wrote this book to appeal to the child that still lurks in the heart of every free spirited adult. I truly hope that he creates more adventure books in the future. ~~ Dee Astell
