Shadow Rites
Jane Yellowrock #10
by Faith Hunter
Roc, $7.99, 384pp
Published: April 2016

Jane Yellowrock is a Cherokee skinwalker who shares her body and soul with Beast, a mountain lion she merged with at age five. No one is completely sure how old she is. Currently she lives in New Orleans, works for the vampire Master of the City, Leo Pellissier and works as his Enforcer as well as having her own security business. Overall her job it is to wrangle (or kill) rogue vampires.

The action here starts with a magical attack on Jane and her home which affects her and others connected to her in unexpected ways. The long-planned Witches Conclave, which may see a peace forged between the witches and vampires of the US seems to be a focus of attacks and a long-lost vampire master has been found raving mad confined in a pit.  Plots within plots and long planned revenge drive pretty much non-stop action from the opening words of page 1.

Again, this is a highly recommended series but you have to have read the previous books in order to understand the underlying plot of this and future novels. ~~ Stephanie L Bannon
