This is more a suspense novel than one of our genre.  There was no science fiction or supernatural element in this story.  That being said, this was a pretty good suspense story.

Blue Eriksen is an archaeologist who is investigating early human use of hallucinogens.  Her theory is that cultures that used drugs in religious ceremonies did not have a widespread problem with addiction.  She further theorized that a particular drug might even prevent or cure addiction. This would, of course, be a wonderful thing for humankind but, as with all such finds, it runs contrary to current business models - those business models of drug cartels. Blue is targeted by a secret worldwide organization because they can see the future impact on their business.

Blue travels to Peru looking for an unknown burial site that may finally hold her answers.  And she is followed by a deadly hired killer.  And she has her toddler son with her along with several grad students.  And she is haunted by the unexplained death of her ex-husband and her son’s near miss with death.

The plot is adequate and logical.  There is a plot device where Blue daydreams about how life could have been so many thousands of years before.  It was mildly interesting but also somewhat distracting.  If it had been a valid second point of view story that ran in tandem to a logical conclusion, it would have been more enjoyable.  The characterizations were pretty good without getting overblown.  And the story was interesting.  I never did see the title connection.  ~~ Catherine Book
